Default Brent and Brentanny Hughes missing since 1996

This case actually involves more than just the brother and sister missing. The mother (Robby Ann Floyd), their aunt (Jennifer Jane Hughes), and their other sister (Sarena Natoya Glenn) all went missing with them. Here's all the information on the case:
"Robby Ann Floyd was last seen by her neighbor as she was packing boxes into a blue van. The neighbor reported that Robby Ann Floyd introduced the woman as her monther, but her real mother later said she had not visited the house in several years. Robby claimed to be on her way to visit her ailing father in Alabama. They were not seen again. There has been no activity on the family's Social Security numbers. Robby's license has since expired, and her vehicle is unregistered. Robby's husband told investigators that his wife and children went to Sylacauga, Alabama and that he had spoken with her shortly after she had left North Carolina. He remained at home with their 6 year old son, Brandon. He is not considered a suspect in the families disappearance. Because Robby maintained infrequent contact with her family, she was not reported missing until August of 1998. Relatives report that she never arrived in Alabama, and Robby's mother stated that Robby has planned to move her father to North Carolina."

Anybody that has any ideas, or updates on this case is welcome to state their opinion.

Found this article from 2011, updated October 2014. There is also a video.

NC WANTED: Fayetteville family's disappearance remains unsolved

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two women and three children vanished in December 1996, leaving behind family who are still haunted by lingering questions and a lack of satisfying answers.

Robby Ann Floyd and her sister, Jennifer Hughes, were last seen at a home on Winterpark Drive in Fayetteville. They were with Floyd's children, Sarena Glenn, 12, and her 5-year-old twin half-siblings Brent and Brentanny Hughes.

Neighbors said the family told them they were packing up and moving to Alabama. No one has heard from them since.

Floyd left a fourth child with her third husband.

"My gut feeling tells me something's not right," said Sarena's father Jerry Glenn. "Just for five people coming up missing doesn't sound good from the start."

Glenn is hoping he'll someday see his daughter again, but after nearly 17 years, it seems the family has either been the victim of foul play, or they may not want to be found.

Detectives said there have been confirmed sightings of Jennifer Hughes, including one at Walmart on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. They said Floyd and her children may be hiding out in Alabama.

But there are factors to suggest the family is not merely hiding.

"We've checked activity on their social security numbers and there's no activity," said Lt. Jimmy Black of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. "No schools have called for their records. It's as if they don't exist anymore." 1

Law enforcement said the case is closed, but the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children still features the case on its web site.

Investigators said Floyd might be using an alias, such as the last name Pressley or Glenn. She has a tattoo on one of her ankles.

Anyone with information about this case can call NC Wanted's tipline at 1-866-439-2683 or submit a tip online.

Default Re: Brent and Brentanny Hughes missing since 1996

Because Robby maintained infrequent contact with her family, she was not reported missing until August of 1998

    On Doe Network it says:

Jennifer may be in the company of Brent and Brenttany Hughes, Sarena Natoya Glenn and her sister Robby Ann Floyd.

They were last seen in Fayetteville in December 1996 or January 1997 at 6401 Winter Park Drive. They were seen packing up their van and told neighbors they were moving back to Alabama.

Robby Floyd's aunt called the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in May 1998 to report Floyd and the others as missing.

Robby Ann Floyd was estranged from her family, so the relatives did not think it unusual that they had not heard from her after an extended period.

A then-6-year-old son was not missing. He was with his father.
Investigation has shown that Robby Ann and her husband had been separated and then reconciled before Robby Ann Floyd said she was moving back to Alabama, her home state.
The husband told lawmen that his wife was going to Alabama to see her sick father and that she called him from Sylacuaga, Alabama, when she arrived. He said she was at a motel near her dad's and that she would call the next day, and she never did.

No family members in Alabama ever reported hearing from or seeing Robby Ann and her children.

There has been no sign of Floyd, her sister or her children. Robby's vehicle is not registered, and her license is expired. There has been no activity on their Social Security numbers.

Case closed according to the article in my post above, because of some confirmed sightings of Jennifer Hughes? Could have been a girl who looked like her?

I hope they are alive, but doubt it very much.

    Missing family is not missing

    Aug 17, 2004

Lawmen say Robby Glenn Hughes Floyd established an address for herself, her three children and her sister, Jennifer Hughes, in Alabama in January 1999.

The Sheriff’s Office has turned the case over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

“Once we’re able to put them somewhere else, we’ve done our job,” said Sheriff’s Maj. Sam Pennica.

Floyd was last seen by her family on Christmas Eve 1996, but she wasn’t reported missing until August 1998. Floyd was 34 at the time.

The Sheriff’s Office began investigating the disappearance, and rewards were offered for information that might help lawmen find Floyd.

Investigators think Floyd simply moved to Alabama, said Detective Michael Hohan.

She had been accused of writing bad checks, Hohan said, and has used at least 14 variations of her name as aliases since 1996.

“On the date she disappeared, the Sheriff’s Office tried to summons her for writing bad checks,” Hohan said.

Hamilton said Floyd had planned to visit Alabama in March 1997, but was unable to make the trip for lack of money. Shirley McSherdon, Jennifer Robby’s mother, tried to call Floyd, but her phone at her Fayetteville home had been disconnected. Floyd’s last known address in Cumberland County was 6401 Winter Park Drive. An address for Jennifer Hughes was not known.

In April 1998, Floyd’s and Hughes’ father died. Family members again tried to reach the women, but were unsuccessful. The family talked to Hughes’ mother-in-law, who told Hamilton she had not seen Floyd since December 1996.

“That’s when I got worried,” Hamilton said.

In 1996, Shane Floyd, Robby’s husband at the time, filed for separation, Hohan said.

Hohan said witnesses told investigators in January 1997 they saw Robby Floyd packing her blue van. Witnesses say a man and woman, who she said was her mother and stepfather, were helping her.

“We do know that in 1997 there was a three-month period when her name and Social Security number showed up associated with a company in Arizona,” Hohan said. “The next surface is the mail trail in January 1999 in Alabama.”

Hamilton said it was her mother and stepfather who were helping her move. She filed missing persons report in 1998.

Hohan said Robby’s daughter, Sarina Glenn, called her father twice -- in 1998 and in 1999. The first time, she reached her father and asked for her disability check. The second time she reached another family member who, Hohan said, told Sarina not to contact anyone in the family.

Her other children are twins Brent and Brittany Hughes. Sarina was 12 in 1998 and the twins were 6.

Hohan said witnesses who know Robby Floyd have said they have seen her in Fayetteville after she was reported missing.

From North Carolina to Alabama is 592 miles, a trip to Arizona is over 2000 miles. Apparently she had enough money for gas, or did she order things online from a company in Arizona? ( Don't know if that was common in 1997?)
I've never read such confusing articles before, also Sarena's father did not mention he spoke to his daughter after they went missing? The video containing her sister crying, is from 2011. Seven years after they were found? Her mother didn't help her move, but above it says she and the stepfather did help her move?

    ETA:
There's a comment below the story, it's from the aunt, posted in September 2015!
    http://www.fayobserver.com/news/loca...600540951.html

My name is sue Hamilton. I am the aunt to this family.
Everything I read in this article is wrong , and some of it lies.I never stated to anyone that robbys mom and step-dad helped her move. And we have still not heard from our missing family. According to ABI Cumberland county BC has turned nothing over to them. But invited Faye Hester of ABI to come look at what they had on the case.

There is the answer, they are still missing!! Why did LE close the case?

I guess they didn't want to spend more man hours on it and just simply closed the case because they thought she was trying to run away from her problems. (Obviously there's more to this case than that).

That's very sad for all relatives I also wonder why Jason/Shane (her husband) moved in 1997, maybe they should check the environment with ground penetrating radar. I don't think Robby, her sister, and her children got very far.

“We do know that in 1997 there was a three-month period when her name and Social Security number showed up associated with a company in Arizona So who used her name and social Security Number, and who was the elderly woman who helped them pack their things? If they were last seen December 1996, why did her husband move in February 1997 with the child she had with him ? Because he was very emotional about the disappearance of his wife and her sister and the other children? And he needed to move on?

If these disappearances would have happened earlier, I would think the Allenstown NH case would fit this one. Whole family missing, and a husband moving on. Saying they were in a divorce and she left with the children, the easiest way to make sure everyone would think they just left. If this really is a closed case, I sure hope they will reopen it!!

It feels wrong, the way some articles are written, as if she just wanted to disappear, fake ID's, husband cleared, maybe she tried to get away from her husband, but even then it is suspicious he (Jason/ Shane) said she called from Alabama, and planned to visit her father the next day, apparently never got there, and that was the last time he heard from her.

Even if I wouldn't have read the article about Hohan and how they/he somehow solved the case, it still doesn't add up with what the relatives told.

The relatives are the ones who want to figure out what happened, all her husband was thinking was to get away with the child they had together, within two or three months after they disappeared. 3 months from December 1996 till February 1997, did he move to Arizona, as her Social Security Number was used there for 3 months in 1997?

I don't think they just left, even while I hope they did and started a new life.
