    This is an interesting case. In Skidmore, Missouri, a small hamlet. I actually saw his death certificate. My recollection is that there were many people present when someone shot him. I believe someone opined that was a nice pick-up truck he had.

    No one seems to know or admit who the shooter was although there were over 40 people there.

    There was a television movie about him played by Brian Dennehy as McElroy. One might say he was one bad dude.

    I think it was "Slingblade" where the main character said, "Some folks just need killin'."

    While it is true that vigilante justice is hardly ever the answer based on the history of this case there seemed to be few other options. I see his widow died in cancer some time back.

    Found a short u-tube program about Skidmore and the television movie as well.

    His wife died at age 55 of cancer. He got her pregnant at age 14.

    It is sad when the law is powerless to tame a bully who terrorized a town.
