A former secret police commander and three agents who served under the late dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet have been sentenced to seven years in prison for the 1974 disappearance of a Spanish priest. The Santiago Court of Appeals on Monday announced the sentences for former Gen. Manuel Conteras; retired Cols. Marcelo Moren and Miguel Krasnoff; and civilian agent Basclay Zapata.
The sentences stem from the case of the Rev. Antonio Llido, a Roman Catholic priest who was arrested in 1974 and never seen again.
Judge Jorge Zepeda also ordered the state to pay about US$190,000 to the priest's sister.
The commander and former agents already are serving prison terms for other rights abuses during Pinochet's 1973-90 regime.
